Ronnie sends Joel to protect her and the romantic heat begins to develop......after it cuts through the awful first impressions. I have really loved getting into this series and the Coronado one! I was gifted this ARC for an honest review. Lea Hart has out done herself once again. This is a spin-off of her amazing Coronodo Series and First Down. I didn't want this one to end, but look forward to any follow up from this book. Ms. Hart keeps you intrigued and never fails to give you plenty of humor, danger and romance.
The story begins with Vivi & her friends, Ruby and Trinity running a clinic in an impoverished community just outside of New Orleans. Vivi is dedicated and she's recently returned to Louisiana after serving with Doctors Without Borders. Vivi experienced the loss of someone close to her while serving,
After the clinic is robbed repeatedly with more violence each time, Vivi's sister, Ronnie (from Second Down), feels that Vivi & her friends need protection. She calls Joel, a friend of hers in Florida, He runs SAI, a security company. Joel is a former Navy SEAL, highly respected and very HOT!!! He's also a bit alpha and has been attracted to Vivi for awhile. Reluctanly, he drops everything when Ronni calls and heads New Orleans. Ben and Dane, two of his team travel with him.
Joel and Vivi met previously in the book Second Down. They start out hesitant to work with each other. It was interesting to see how their story started in another series and come full circle in this book. The camaraderie between the guys is always interesting, but the bond that the ladies form is even stronger.
I highly recommend this read and look forward to where Ms. Hart takes this series next with the supporting characters. ENJOY!!!
I was gifted an ARC by the author in exchange for an honest review. Lea Hart is an auto-buy author for me so I would have read Vortex and written the same review even without the gift. Vortex is a solid 4-stars imho. It's about Vivi, a doctor operating a clinic in an under-served community just outside of New Orleans. Vivi is dedicated, headstrong--and hot--and she's recently back in Louisiana after serving with Doctors Without Borders. Vivi lost someone special while overseas and she returns home to open a clinic with her besties, Ruby and Trinity.
When the clinic is robbed repeatedly with escalating violence Vivi's sister, Ronnie (from Second Down), sees that Vivi & Co need protection so she calls on Joel, a friend in Florida who leads Security Alliance International. Joel is a former Navy SEAL, he's a pilot, he's well-respected and he knows his way around a bed. He also has the perfect amount of alpha in him to keep things interesting with Vivi. Because Joel is "that" kind of guy, he drops everything when Ronni calls and heads to New Orleans to protect the clinic and the trio running it. He takes two of his team along for the ride, Ben and Dane, and they provide nice little side stories that keep things lively. Joel and Vivi met previously, but that was unsettling and neither is happy at the prospect of being in close proximity.
I dropped a star largely because there were some distractions for me that, in one case, pulled me away to google something. I wouldn't have removed a star for any one of these alone but looking at them all together I'm doing so. Just my opinion.
Everything else was very good. The characters are likable and just plain nice. The dialogue between Vivi and Joel made me laugh and smile, and I dare you not to melt when Joel explains the vortex to Vivi. Ms Hart has amped up the heat level in this one. Joel and Vivi didn't fall into bed quickly but once they got there, things sizzled. Often. These scenes are well-written and hot. I enjoyed catching up with Ronnie and Chase even though I am Team Coronado rather than Team F&T. The camaraderie among former brothers-in-arms is something that Ms Hart aces consistently. She's even handed in this as we see some seriously good female bonding with the trio, Ronni, Vivi's/Ronnie’s mother, nana and aunts. My fingers are crossed that Gideon or Scott get the next book. Vortex is a good story well told, with no one-dimensional characters, great heat and an awesome happy ending. My tip stream the playlist as you start the book...you won't regret it!

Happy ever after with a twist. Save the girl and find love. What a way to go. He just thought he did not want a relationship.
This book was great. I always love reading Speacial Ops or Security Ops books this one was awesome. I will be reading the rest in the series. I highly recommend it if you like alpha males and strong women this series is forcyou.
